CC Hotel

By Grace

This week on crew Hotel we've been working on Rita Valentine dog park in Steamboat. This has not been a traditional hitch, but due to a grant, we have had the opportunity to represent RMYC in possibly one of the most utilized trails of any we've done. Very obviously, the best part of the project has been the dogs coming to say hello. Or maybe they're just there for our lunch. Either way, all the hard work pays off to see the pets enjoying themselves; along with their owners.

Since coming to RMYC, I have learned that I am so much more physically capable than I ever thought. Normally, full work days

of manual labor could be enough. But because we only have ten weeks to also enjoy the many sights that Colorado has to offer, you have to find it within yourself to enjoy the rec weekends as well. It's pretty easy to do when you've got a group of people who are all there for the same reason.

When things get tough, it's humbling to know that my fellow crew members are feeling the exact same way. Our backs are screaming, we are drenched in sweat, and we keep on chugging endless water. But soon enough, the work day comes to an end, we look over our progress and see the results of our labor, go back to camp for your not-so-average dinner, and finally catch some sleep. Then you get to wake up at the crack of dawn and repeat the whole process. But you wouldn't have it any other way when you know that one day in the near future you'll be looking back and wishing you could have those experiences all fresh and new again. The hard times and everything. Which is why I choose to embrace it all now and take advantage of every experience this program places in front of me.
